Our work so far

Adrian Smith, carer, at an NCS eventIn November 2011 we ran a Quality Neurology audit of neurology services in the area. It took into account views from commissioners, service planners and people affected by a long-term neurological condition – who are at the heart of all NCS projects.

Over twenty people attended the professionals part of the audit including neurology consultants, specialist nurses and local authority representatives. They worked through a series of ‘quality requirements’, evaluating together how far they met each requirement.

We also ran three focus groups for service users that were attended by twenty local people with long-term neurological conditions, ranging from acquired brain injury to ataxia and including epilepsy, MND, MS and Parkinson’s.

Jigsaw pieces to show working togetherThe audit will give NHS Berkshire West a clear picture of their neurology services and how they compare to national standards. Then we’ll support them to put service improvements in place, so that local people’s needs are better met.

We are currently writing up the findings of our audit and will post the report here once it is published, along with our action plan for improving services.
